The Children

December 2, 2012 at 9:41 am (Dominic Alapat, Poetry)

rolled down from the clouds

into the balcony

like marbles.

I slipped back 30 years

as one chorus of howls

held my mind.

Out of place we were

the dragon

the flower.

The cars going down

the road at night

put me back.

In the centre of the lights…

yes my darling…

my darling…

And then the man

with the walking stick

at the door

tap tapping…

And how the stars

fell in a flurry

on the ground…

And how the children

rushed forward to gather them

in their arms.
