The Tree

May 6, 2008 at 7:10 pm (Dominic Alapat, Poetry)

Its leaves shimmer

like it has just rained.

It is summer, though,

and the afternoon sun

is what is sparkling

on the leaves. Beyond

this, are the railway

tracks and further on,

the buildings like a

row of hills. The sun

flashes bright on some

of the windows, the

buildings in the distance

stand like dark clouds,

the ones under construction

ghosts. I stand at my

window and watch. I

watch the tree, its

leaves are swaying.

For this moment, it

is a river.
