The Night Scene

April 14, 2008 at 5:09 am (Dominic Alapat, Poetry)

In the night scene,

the settlement is

quiet. A few lights

shine alongside

some houses, painted

green and pink. In the

distance a torchlight

or a cigarette flares

off and on on the railway

tracks. In the settlement,

in one house, a window

is lit up. A woman in red

appears briefly. Then she

is gone. She appears again

opening and spreading

something like a blanket

as through she was

preparing to go to sleep;

as though she was

spreading the blanket

over the night; telling

all that they now must

close their eyes and

go to sleep.
